Baobab announces its collaboration with HelloGold

HelloGold and Baobab will jointly develop digital financial products for Baobab’s 800,000 customers across 9 countries in Africa.   HelloGold, an Asia-based fintech savings platform, will support Baobab in expanding its financial inclusion services through an integrated savings platform.   HelloGold’s gold backed savings and loan financial products will be integrated with Baobab’s mobile phone app to be launched in 2019. Thanks to this collaboration, Baobab clients will be able to easily buy, save and invest in gold, directly on the Baobab mobile application. Our clients will have instant and secure access anytime to gold as an alternative savings product, which can provide protection against currency depreciation and provide attractive savings returns.   Accelerated by mobile phones and digitization, financial inclusion is on the rise globally. Africa has been at the forefront, with mobile driven financial inclusion growing by 20% over the past six years. Through this partnership, Baobab and HelloGold intend to grow and explore financial inclusion in more markets on the continent. Ruben DIEUDONNÉ – Regional Director

He will be in charge of supervising activities and development of the Baobab subsidiaries in Senegal, Ivory Coast, Mali, Burkina Faso, Nigeria and DRC.   In his more than 10 years with the group, Ruben has contributed to the development and strengthening of these 6 subsidiaries in various senior management roles, including CEO of Baobab Ivory Coast since 2018. Nicolas reports to Arnaud Ventura and will participate in the Group Executive Committee.   Nicolas brings to us more than 25 years of experience as CIO/CTO or Transformation Program Director in Banking (Credit Lyonnais, Société Générale), Insurance (Euler Hermes, Lombard International Assurances) and Payment services (Ingenico, Idemia). Microcred China take a new digital turn: simplified renewal with online contract

Until recently, renewals of loans at Microcred China was the same process as for first time loan applications, both for the client and the operational staff. As we already know the client when he renews, to encourage his loyalty and increase operational efficiency, a simpler and fully online process is now offered by Microcred China via its WeChat account.   Microcred China, the Chinese subsidiary of the Baobab Group, is at a turning point of its development in a fast changing environment where the use of technology make loans available everywhere, sometimes only at the press of a button. Whilst this can be tempting for some clients, it can also be dangerous since some microfinance institutions do not have the same socially responsible lending practices that Baobab advocates.   For Baobab, the personal relationship built with our clients has always been one of our key differentiators and fundamental to our success. Therefore, finding the right balance between digitalization and direct contact with our customers will be the foundation for our continued success in the coming years.   In August 2018, a new service pilot aiming to reach that balance was launched in 6 branches of Microcred China. Salim Azedine – new Group Chief Information Officer

Salim will start his new role based in the Dakar offices in January 2019.   Salim joins Baobab as CIO to bring new energy to the Innovation & Technology Department in order to develop a roadmap to effectively support the company in its digital transformation. “Baobab Group is an exciting company that brings together technology and financial services in challenging markets,” said Salim Azedine. “I look forward to working with the teams in Dakar and across the subsidiaries to achieve Baobab’s digital transformation.”   Salim brings more than 20 years of experience in the IT field, 15 of which in management positions. Delphine Martin – New Group Chief People Officer

  Baobab Group today announced the arrival of Delphine Martin as Group Chief People Officer.   Delphine will oversee Baobab Group’s human resources in the 10 subsidiaries in Africa and China providing support to the over 3,800 employees in the Group.   “I am excited to join Baobab Group as Chief People Officer and look forward to collaborating with the dynamic and talented people contributing to its mission of providing digital financial services to individuals and entrepreneurs,” said Delphine Martin. “Baobab Group is undergoing a digital transformation across Africa and China, and I look forward to the opportunity and challenge of accompanying the staff in this change process.”   Delphine joins Baobab from F.Iniciativas, where she was Chief Human Resources Officer for over 6 years. He brings more than 15 years of experience in the banking domain in Africa, as he was Managing Director of several subsidiaries of the Bank of Africa Group in 17 different countries.
